TRENTON, NJ --  With holiday shopping kicking into high gear resulting in more home package deliveries, Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler announced the arrest of a man accused of attempting to steal packages from a homeowner's porch.

At approximately 1:30 pm on Tuesday, an unmarked Mercer County Sheriff’s Patrol Unit allegedly observed Kenneth Holloway, 58, Trenton, removing a cardboard box and another package off the porch of a home on the 200 block of Hamilton Avenue in Trenton before fleeing. Holloway was located and apprehended several houses away.

Kemler strongly urged residents to be mindful of packages left on a porch or stored in a car.

“With the holiday season approaching, be aware that criminals are looking for easy ways to steal your packages,” said Kemler. “Try to have packages delivered where you are during the day or try to buddy up with a neighbor or friend to accept your deliveries."

The stolen packages were placed into safekeeping by the Sheriff’s Office and returned to the rightful owner.

Holloway has been charged with theft by unlawful taking and released pending a court appearance.
