JENKINS TOWNSHIP, PA --  For the last week, the Robbinsville 10U softball team has battled the summer heat and teams from states in the northeast. After six days of tough opponents, rain delays, and come from behind wins, the team returns home from Pennsylvania as the second place winner in the Eastern Region Little League Tournament.

In the first round of the tournament Robbinsville, the reigning New Jersey State Champions, faced Maryland and came out on top in a score of five to three.

Then came the team from Maine on Monday. Robbinsville jumped out to a quick six to zero lead after just two innings. The team won a big victory keeping their opponents from scoring and racking up a 10 to zero moving them ahead in the bracket.

The team then got two days of rest after a scheduled day off on Tuesday and canceled games on Wednesday because of bad weather.  The break set the team up for a double-header on Thursday.

In their noontime game, Robbinsville faced the Delaware team. Once again, they jumped out in front quickly to a 4-1 lead after four innings. They would finish their daytime game on top 6-1. In the evening, Pennsylvania brought a challenge to Robbinsville, handing them their first loss of the tournament in a close 2-1 finish.

And then came another delay thanks to a lightening storm on Friday to put their game back another day.

But, back on the field on Saturday and battling to get back into the mix, the Robbinsville team struck lightening themselves against their opponent from round one, Maryland. They held Maryland to just two runs through six innings and tied it up at 2-2 sending the game into extra innings. The determined and talented team dug deep through a heart-stopping two extra innings for a huge upset win and final score of 5-3.

The hard-earned win sent Robbinsville to the Eastern Regional Championship game later that evening on Saturday against the team from the tournament's host state, Pennsylvania.  Even after strong play in the field and at the plate, Robbinsville lost 7-2.

After a week of facing strong competition from top teams in the region, the Robbinsville 10U softball team earned themselves the second place in the Eastern Region Softball and a few weeks before school starts to enjoy the summer.
