MIDLAND PARK, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights 10U team captured the South Bergen Girls softball league title with a 6-4 victory over Glen Rock on Saturday morning. The game was the conclusion of a game that was started on Friday evening but was suspended due to inclement weather with the Aviators leading 4-2.
The Aviators added to their lead with two insurance runs in the top of the sixth, but Glen Rock bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the lead to 6-4. After a scoreless top of the seventh, Hasbrouck Heights brought back starter Grace McGuire, who pitched a scoreless bottom of the seventh to pick up the save.
In league rules, pitchers are limited to four innings, so it is common to tandem the pitchers in a 3-3-1 alignment. Skye Stoeckel paired with McGuire on the mound, pitching the fourth through seventh, in picking up the win.
Sophie Haines, Julianna Terranova, Lexi Powers and Madison Kata each drove in runs, keying the offense for the Lady Aviators.
The championship concludes a perfect season for Hasbrouck Heights, who went 11-0 in the regular season. They then went on to defeat Waldwick, 8-2, and Montvale, 10-2, to advance to the league championship game.
