HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -  It's two weeks until the Hasbrouck Heights baseball team returns to the field in the Last Dance Tournament on July 14.  The Aviators, the third seed in the Becton side of the Becton-Wood-Ridge regional, will face the second seeded Lyndhurst Bears at Riggin Field in East Rutherford.

The players are practicing on their own, as the NJSIAA regulations have coaches are not allowed to work with their teams during the current summer blackout period until after July 13.  Gabriele said that the coaches have given the players guidance to what they need to be working on, particularly the pitchers.

“The guys have been working out for the past couple of weeks hoping to be in the tournament,“ said Hasbrouck Heights head coach Pat Gabriele.  “They have amped it up over the past week knowing we are definitely in. Fortunately I have a great group of leaders in my seniors and juniors so they are practicing like 4-5 times a week because they are crazy like that but that’s why we (the coaches) love this group."

“All the players we expected to play this past season, should be playing over the three days in this tournament,” Gabrielle continued. “It's a tough pod we are in, but all opponents that we are familiar with.”

If the Aviators win they will face the winner of top-seeded St Mary of Rutherford and host school Becton.  St. Mary was the non-public B champion in 2019.  It is a tough bracket

“Now that they know the opponent and our pod/regional they are focused on having a good three games, " Gabriele stated. "Lyndhurst is typically the class of their division and are well coached, It is a tough opening round game and hopefully we are up to the task. No matter what, this is a great way for our seniors to go out. The tournament has been organized in a great way, and we are looking forward to getting to play a couple of baseball games.”
