HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The request of the Hasbrouck Heights Swim Club to enter a lease modification with the Borough was approved by the Council on Tuesday night. As a result of this modification, the Swim Club will be able to change its by-laws concerning the admittance of new members.
New memberships will be available to Borough employees, including Police and Board of Education employees and teachers, and families who attend Corpus Christi School. At the suggestion of swim club member Patricia Sonzogni, it was also opened to members of the Hasbrouck Heights volunteer fire department and EMS.
New members will follow the standard application process, including completion of a formal application, refundable bond, and three pool member references in addition to annual membership dues.
Additionally, sponsored memberships will be available to those living outside Hasbrouck Heights or Wood-Ridge. These memberships would follow the same application process but must provide five current members as a reference.
The swim club is facing major maintenance work in the off-season, including new stainless steel gutters; a new filtration system used to recirculate heated water and new concrete around the entire pool to stop the continued sinking of the entrances to the pool. Facing a large financial outlay, the swim club has applied for a loan to fund the repairs.
“In order to be financially solvent to pay back the loan, we considered ways to achieve the days of full membership again, “ stated Jen Ober, Hasbrouck Heights Swim Club Board President.
