HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Spring was on the minds of the Council as the Borough of Hasbrouck Heights had its twice-monthly meeting on Tuesday night as the Council recognized a spring championship team, and made plans for improvements on the field they play on for next spring.
The Council recognized the Hasbrouck Heights Soccer Association's U10 GIrls' Soccer team for winning its Spring Flight. Nine members of the team attended the ceremony to receive certificates of accomplishment from the Council and Mayor.
Prior to awarding of the certificates, however, Evan Jacobs of Neglia Engineering, the borough engineering firm, gave an update on plans for improvements to the Woodland Park sports fields and lawn areas. The improvements include:
- Construct new inlets and curbing along Harrison Avenue entrance parking to prevent flooding and erosion of the soccer fields from the water that rushes down Harrison Ave and into the parking lots during rain events.
- Provide top-soiling and seeding for areas where the grass has become sparse (mainly near the goals)
- Provide aeration, hydroseed and turf blankets for the entire field for the winter months.
These improvements should not only help the existing areas in need of improvement, but help provide a more lush field next spring after the winter has completed.
