HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- The repeated countdowns of 3, 2, 1...GO! filled the Community Room at Hasbrouck Heights Borough Hall as Hasbrouck Heights Cub Scout Pack 17 held its annual Pinewood Derby race on Saturday morning.

Over two dozen cars were entered to race down the electronically-timed track. There was even a Siblings Division. Cub Scouts and leaders crafted the cars at a workshop in early February. Before the race, cars were registered, weighed, and measured to confirm they met weight and length standards.

They will go on to represent the Pack in the District Derby on Saturday, April 7, at the Secaucus Recreation Center.

The Pinewood Derby is the premier Cub Scout event.  Millions of Cub Scouts have been building and racing Pinewood Derby cars since 1953. According to the Boy Scouts of America website, the goals of the Pinewood Derby is Sportsmanship and good citizenship, personal achievement, and family understanding.
