HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Hasbrouck Heights Swim Club Dive team opened the 2018 season with a win over Paramus, 43 - 23. Friday at home.

The co-ed team is comprised of divers from five years old through high school. The meet is broken into two sections, 11 and Under, and 12 and Up.  Divers compete in either 8 and Under, 11 and Under, 14 and Under, and 18 and Under. The head coach is Lauren Cappadona, who is assisted by Sydney Mihalik.

"Working with these kids has been the highlight of my summer so far," said Cappadona. "I have watched some of these kids grow since I was diving alongside them, and it's amazing to be the one to help them reach their full potential."

This year's team of 23 has six girls and 17 boys. Even though the team lost five divers from last year, Cappadona said there are 10 new divers to coach.

"We have a lot of new divers this year that didn't even know how to dive when they first joined, and through our hard work in the last few weeks, some of them were able to place at today's meet," she said. "There is no better feeling than when a kid finally does the dive that they've been trying to get since the first day they started."
