LODI, NJ -  The Elan Banquet hall was the setting for the 2018 Hasbrouck Heights Parents For Athletes Awards banquet, honoring the efforts of the Aviators athletes during the 2018 season.

In addition to the athletes receiving their certificates acknowledging their participation, varsity athletes were given a pin, representing their sport, for their varsity letter.  (First time letterwinners will also be given varsity letters to be placed on their varsity jackets.) Seniors who competed in three sports for all four seasons were also given special recognition. 

Five special awards were also given out during the evening.

"The Rosa Holawen Award for Courage and Inspiration" was given to Giana DiLascio, who has persevered through numerous medical issues, including a ruptured appendix leading to sepsis, which saw her given last rites at age 5, and brain surgery at age 12, to become one of Hasbrouck Heights most prolific distance runners in the school’s history.

Nico Facchini was awarded the Iron Man Award, while Catherine Castellanos was awarded the Iron Woman Award. To be eligible, you needed to play three sports all four years in high school. 

James Klenk and Kassie Ketcho were awarded the Most Outstanding Male and Female Athlete award. Both are three sport stalwarts.

Each individual team awarded a coach’s award and a team MVP award.   A listing of all the team award winners.

“After last year’s banquet, I thought that we could not have had a better year than we did a season ago,’ said Hasbrouck Heights Athletic Director Michael Scuilla.  “But somehow, we did.”

Scuila then listed the accompishments of the school’s 18 athletic teams, and 380 student athletes.  

  • 8 League Championships
  • 212-98 combined record for all teams
  • 15 Teams made the NJSIAA State Sectionals Playoffs
  • 7 Teams Advanced to the Semi-Final Round
  • Softball Made Sectional Final
  • Football North 1 Group 1 Sectional Champion
  • Girls Track Sectional Champion
  • 79 Athletes selected First Team All-League
  • 5 Athletes Selected All-County
  • 2 Wrestlers Medaled at the State Tournament
  • 1 Wrestler winning the State Championship
  • 11 Track Athletes winning medals in the State Sectionals
  • 3  Track Athletes competing in the Meet of Champions this weekend
