HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - After a dominant performance over Lodi High School in his team’s final scrimmage before their September 8 season opener against St. Mary High School, you would think head coach Nick Delcalzo would be relaxed going in the season. But that is not the case.
“I think we have to shape up a few things,“ Delcalzo said. “We were sloppy in spots, we have some work to do before we play next week.”
While there were some mistakes that will be corrected between now and the opener, the Aviators looked like a team ready to repeat last year's success. The first string defense kept the Rams off the board, as Lodi's only points came on a field goal late in the fourth quarter against the second team defense.
The offense moved the ball against the Lodi defense, scoring every time they had the ball, except one, when the quarterback-running back exchange was fumbled.
“That is what scrimmages are for, “ Delcalzo stated. “To show you what is working, and what needs to be worked on.”
