SADDLE BROOK, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights Rec Wrestling team traveled to Saddle Brook to participate in the annual Skip Bailey Tournament on Sunday.
Hasbrouck Heights entered 47 wrestlers in the tournament, and brought home 24 medals. Head coach Andrew Nass observed "our coaches believe that all of the hard work and extra practicing the kids have been putting in over the last couple of months is showing in the results."
Of the 24 medalists, there were 9 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals, and 8 Bronze Medals. Those medal winners were:
Gold Medalists - Dean Eckert, Mason Abromowicz, Rocco Pantiliano, Gavin Abromowicz, Jake Olivero, Gabriel Thomas, Mikey Perillo, Anthony Cummings, and Connor Scuilla.
Silver Medalists - Andrew LeConte, Nico Carvajal, Nick Leone, Ryan Prince, Dylan Fermin, Matt Fermin, and Jeff Keezer.
Bronze Medalists - James Carullo, Danny Guido, Nick Haines, Drew Eckert, Kyle Von Seidelmann, Jayden Chicaiza, Charlie Tartaglia, and Evan Vera.
"I think our kids did an awesome job in the Skip Bailey tournament of believing in the techniques and game plans that we have been going over in practice," said Nass. "Our wrestlers showed a lot of grit and toughness and did an amazing job of taking calculated chances and risks and giving maximum effort for the entire time they were on the mat. I think it is also a credit to the amount of fantastic coaches, volunteers, and wrestling moms who come to practices and matches to support us and the goals of our program."
"As a program, we don't measure our success based on the amount of medals we win at any one tournament, but rather on the effort level and willingness to try to stick to each wrestler's plan going into each match. So as a whole I believe all of our wrestlers have greatly improved, even from just a week ago."
The team has a busy schedule this week starting with a Duals Team Match this Friday night at home in the New Gym against Cliffside Park/Edgewater, starting at 7:30pm. Saturday will bring a home scrimmage at 8:30am against New Milford, Mountain Lakes-Boonton, and Lyndhurst. The Hasbrouck Heights Recreation Wrestling Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, which will have 8u and 10u divisions starting at 8:30am and 12u, 14u, and 6u divisions competing in the afternoon, starting at 12:30pm.
