HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- The Hasbrouck Heights Soccer Association's U10 Boys travel soccer team won their division this Spring. They played in the the Northern Counties Soccer Association League, and went 9-0-1 on the season.
The team played a ten-game schedule, with 90% of games played on Sundays. The Hasbrouck Heights team played against towns from around Bergen County, including Teaneck, Waldwick, Saddle Brook, and North Arlington. According to head coach Steve Oettinger, the team had finished previous years in second or third place, but were able to "break through" this year.
"This was a great group of boys, that I liked to call 'the cardiac kids,'" said head coach Steve Oettinger. "We had a wonderful season going 9-0-1. However in 6 of our 10 games, we conceded the first goal and in some games we were down by two goals, only to comeback and win."
Oettinger said the team had to overcome various obstacles including "deficits, driving rainstorms and spending most of the time on the road"... but "it couldn’t stop them from accomplishing their goal of winning our flight."
"It was a true team effort as we had contributions from every player," said Oettinger. "I, and and coaches Sam Papasavas, Stephen Capozzoli and our trainer Jonathan Palau couldn’t be prouder with their never-say-die attitude."
