HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - Peter Neumann banged out two hits and had three RBI, and Shawn Calhoun was 3-for-3 as the Hasbrouck Heights defeated  Saddle Brook, 6-2, Wednesday afternoon at Depken Field in NJIC Meadowlands Division action. Nick Cupo pitched five innings, allowing two runs, on one hit and four walks, while striking out four, to pick up the win.

The Aviators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as the first three Aviators singled to lead off the game.  Dylan Grisafe grounded a single into center field, followed by Calhoun’s line drive to center to put runners on first and second for Neumann.  Neumann singled, scoring courtesy runner Rocco Minichiello (running for the cather, Grisafe), for a 1-0 lead. After a double play grounder put a runner on third with two outs, Cupo beat out an infield hit for a 2-0 lead.

Saddle Brook scored a run in the top of the fifth, cutting the lead to 2-1.  But the Aviators broke the game open in the bottom of the inning, with the top of the order doing the bulk of the heavy lifting.

Grisafe singled for the second time on the game, with Minichello once again running, advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third base. Calhoun walked and stole second, bringing Neumann to the plate. Once again Neumann, singled to center scoring Minichiello and Calhoun for a 4-1 lead. Later in the inning, Marcos Ochoa singled in Neumann and Cupo (who had walked) for a 6-1 lead.

Saddle Brook scored a run in the top of the sixth, when Cupo walked the first two hitters, bringing in Travis Culkin to pitch. Following wild pitch, Culkin was able to escape the inning allowing only one of the inherited runners to score. He pitched a scoreless seventh, picking up a save and striking out three in two innings of no-hit relief.

NOTES:  Freshman third baseman Connor Friedel singled in his first at-bat in the second inning for his first hit.
