WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - For the second straight game, Wood-Ridge combined stellar pitching and a potent offense, beating Cresskill, 10-0, in a NJIC non-divisional home opener Tuesday afternoon.
Trey Packen pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one run, striking out 11, in picking up the win. Nicholas Rizos and Devin Arce combined to pitch the final two innings.
Wood-Ridge opened the scoring in the first inning, scoring three runs due to some shaky Cresskill defense. Michael Sarlo reached on a two-base error by the Cresskill third baseman to start the inning. Trey Packen followed with a single, with Nick Pfeifer, running for Sarlo, advancing to third.
Pfeiffer would score when a pick-off throw got away from the Cresskill first baseman for the Cougars second error of the inning, with Packen moving to second. Following a walk to Nick Rizos, Nick Marchitelli beat out a bunt, loading the bases with no one out. Phil Giancaspro singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Packen and Rizos for a 3-0 lead.
The Cougars escaped further damage when Mark Prioleau lined into a double play and Leo Giancaspro struck out to end the inning.
Wood-Ridge added three more runs in the third, as Cresskill’s fielding woes again proved costly. Rizos reached on an error by the first baseman, and then scored on Marchitelli’s single. Phil Giancaspro hit into a fielder’s choice, and moved to second when Prioleau walked. Leo Giancascpro then singled in a run to make it 5-0. Proleau scored on an error by the pitcher to make the score 6-0
Rizos and Phil Giancaspro finished the day with two runs batted in, while Leo Giancapsro jhad three hits to lead the Wood-Ridge attack.
