NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ - A good end to a rough week. After being swept on Monday and Tuesday, it was Hasbrouck Heights’ turn to do the sweeping, shutting out Weehawken, 7-0, in a NJIC Meadowlands Division game.
“It felt good to win today,” said Hasbrouck Heights coach Dave Rispoli, “At the end of the day, three of the boys bowled over their average. That's been our goal, bowl over average.
“It was nice seeing them bowl well the first game,” Rispoli. “They had a great beginning, cooled off in the middle and ended strong. Damiano (DeCandia) had his usual good 9th and 10th frames. He had a strike in each of those frames. Sean ended his game with five strikes in a row.
“The lanes changed on them in the second game,” Rispoli stated “The oil dried up and their balls were hooking more. We haven't seen that happen much this year. A little here and there, but today it was a pretty big difference in conditions from game one to game two. Their scores reflected the difficult time they were having. Jake adapted quickly because he has the most experience with changing conditions. He bowled ten pins over his average.
“I was pleasantly surprised at how well they recovered in the third game,” Rispoli continued. “The adjustments we made worked. Johnny bowled four strikes in a row in the middle of the game. Jake got a bad break in the 10th frame that prevented him from bowling a 200.
“The boys are working hard to improve, and it shows, “Rispoli stated. ‘They are setting and achieving obtainable goals. Tuesday is a pivotal match against Secaucus. I'm hoping we can have our first day of three games over 600."
