WOODLAND PARK, NJ -  It was a day of highs and lows for the Hasbrouck Heights cross-country program Saturday in the State Sectional qualifying meet at Garret Mountain in Woodland Park.

In the girls’ race Saturday morning, freshman Shannon Artuso, who finished third a week ago in the Bergen Meet of Champions freshmen division, fell at the two mile mark and did not finish for the Aviators.  The fall was costly, as the Aviators finished seventh, just eight points out of fifth palce.  As a result, the Aviators will not go to the state sectional meet, as the top five teams advance.

Individually, Giana DiLascio finished seventh overall individually.

In the afternoon, the boys' team was faced with adversity before the race as sophomore Nick Bua was not able to compete, and was replaced in the lineup by Joe Canavatchel.  Despite the lineup change, the Aviators were able to qualify for the Group 1 championships, finishing fourth behind Mountain Lakes, North Warren and Wallkill Valley.
