NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ - If there was any rust in Hasbrouck Heights after missing last week’s game with Secaucus due to the Patriots being closed for COVID, you certainly could not tell it Friday night. 

The Aviators jumped out to a 14-0 first quarter lead en route to a 46-7 victory over North Arlington in a New Jersey Interscholastic Conference football game Friday evening in North Arlington.  The Aviators improved to 2-1 on the season, 2-0 in the NJIC Meadowlands, and wlll face an unbeaten Becton team next Friday at Depken Field for the Meadowlands Division title. (Both teams have had a game postponed with Secaucus this season.) 

Following a defensive stop on the first drive, Hasbrouck Heights took over pinned back its own 21-yard line.  Stephen Faussette took his first carry 79 yards for a touchdown, only to have it called back due to a holding penalty.  Following a two-yard loss on the next play, Rocco Minichiello went 91-yards for a touchdown with 6:01 remaining in the first quarter. George Kouletas nailed the extra point for a 7-0 lead.

The Aviators took over their next possession on North Arlington 20, following a defensive stop and a punt return from Faussette.  On fourth and four at the Vikings 14, Faussette hit Minichiello in the left flat and the senior dashed in for a 14 yard score with 1:57 left, and following Kouletas kick, had a quick 14-0 lead.

Following another punt return to the North Arlington 20, Faussette hit Luke Kest with a 20-yarder for a 20-0 lead on the first play of the second quarter.  The kick was blocked. 

The Vikings picked up a few first downs, but were forced to punt, with the Aviators taking over at their own 43-yard line.  Two plays later Faussette hooked up with junior Jake Diaz down the right side for a 38-yard touchdown pass into the end zone.  Kouletas kick made the score 27-0.

North Arlington took a gamble, late in the second quarter, going for it on fourth and five with 1:54 left in the half.  The Aviators defense stopped the Vikings, and made them pay quickly.

Minichiello ran for 15, before Faussette hit Jadan Nelson for a 32-yard gain down the middle, with Nelson being dragged down at the eight-yard line.  Faussette hit Diaz with an eight yard scoring drive to push the score to 33-0 at the half.

North Arlington defense came up with an interception on the first drive of the second half, but could not capitalize.  Anthony DiLascio took over, carrying four time for 40 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown run.  Kouletas’ kick made the score 40-0.

North Arlington finally got on the board in the fourth, as quarterback Joey Vitt hit Jaivon Acquino with a 35-yard pass play with 7;40 remaining in the game. Vitt converted the extra point to make the score 40-7.

DiLascio put the finishing touches on the game, scoring on a 55-yard run to make the score 46-7. 

North Arlington tried one more drive, but Kest picked off Vitt’s pass, and the Aviators ran out the clock.
