HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - A 8-0 run to start the game was too much for Hasbrouck Heights to overcome as Pompton Lakes defeated the Lady Aviators, 39-27, in a NJIC girls crossover game on Tuesday afternoon in Hasbrouck Heights.
The Cardinals led at end of the first quarter, 13-3, behind six points from Emily Ramirez and four points from Emma Diamond. Devon Sonzogni’s three pointer accounted for the Lady Aviators only points in the first quarter.
Hasbrouck Heights picked it up in the second quarter, scoring 11, as the Lady Aviators trailed 26-14 going into the half. Krystal Kelly had three points, while Paige McGuire, Victoria Mateo, Sam Lahullier and Sonzogni each added a bucket for the Lady Aviators.
A 9-2 third quarter put the Aviators back into the game, as neither team scored until the 4.01 mark of the third quarter, when McGuire scored on a corner jump shot. Pompton Lakes answered with their only points of the period before the Lady Aviators ran off the final seven points of the quarter.
McGuire answered, with a basket, and Lahuiller scored to cut the lead to 28-20. Chiara Alvarez hit one of two from the line, before Victoria Mateo scored with 21 seconds left to cut the lead to 28-23.
But it was all Pompton Lakes in the final quarter, outscoring the Aviators 11-4, as the Lady Aviators did not get on the board until there were two minutes remaining in the game.
Jasmine Sampong lead Pompton Lakes with 16 points.
