WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -  A Footgolf fund-raiser to benefit  Blue Devils Boys Soccer is being held on April 21 at 1 pm at the Crystal Springs Golf Resort in Hamburg, NJ.   The entry fee for the fund-raiser is $50 per player, and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

So, what is footgolf, exactly?  (No, it has nothing to do with nudging your golf ball when the other players are not looking).

According to American Footgolf League website

FootGolf is a precision sport, a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf, being more closely related to golf. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf and players kick a regulation #5 soccer ball at a golf course facility on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups in as few shots as possible.

FootGolf is played on golf courses only. it is necessary to have the golf component to maintain the quality of the course. Bunkers, hazards and golf course particularities help to improve the game.

Or, as Blue Devils soccer coach Alberico DePierro stated "it is basically golf played with a soccer ball and your legs."

DePierro noted that the event is being organized by the coaches and parents of the soccer team, and that the proceeds will go to  Blue Devils boys soccer.

"This is our second year doing it (coaches and parents run the tournament, not the school) and it's all family fun and fun with friends for a great cause to help raise money for our program."
