WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -  Wood-Ridge took advantage of six Wallington errors to open the season with a 16-1 win over the Panthers in 3 ½ innings. Freshman pitcher Brooke Biamonte struck out four in picking up a win in her first high school start.

Biamonte allowed one run in the first on two hits, a walk and an error, but settled down and shut out the Panthers the rest fo the way.  

Catcher Sam Perez went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBI to pace the Lady Blue Devils offense. Right fielder Maddie Marino had two hits, including a triple, while Casey Shulz had a double and two runs scored.

"I'm really proud of the girls and how they played their first game," said head coach Andrea Marino. "It's been a tough preseason with weather but they came out determined and with a purpose. We still have work to do but I'm proud of them." 

Wallington pitcher Alexandra Holt picked up the loss, allowing 10 hits, and 16 runs, only 8 earned, in three innings of work.  She walked three and struck out three.

Long Beach Island Summer Shuttle No Longer A Free Ride

BRANT BEACH - The Long Beach Island Shuttle, an extremely popular service for visitors and residents of Long Beach Island, will have a fee for the first time beginning Memorial Day weekend. 

The Long Beach Township Board of Commissioners made the announcement at their meeting on Monday, April 9.

Bateman Bill, “ Bijou’s Law”, to Require Training, Licensing for Pet Groomers

TRENTON, NJ - State Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman (R-16) will introduce legislation to increase protections for family pets by requiring pet groomers to be properly trained and licensed following the deaths of three dogs in five months at different New Jersey pet salons. .
