EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- A six-run sixth inning was followed by a seven-run seventh, as Hasbrouck Heights broke open a tight 2-0 game late, en route to a 15-0 win over Becton in NJIC girls softball Tuesday.
Erin Owens went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI, including the game’s first run in the second inning to stake the Lady Aviators to a 1-0 lead. Senior Victoria Vizzachero singled in a run in the third to extend the lead to 2-0.
The game turned into a pitching duel at that point, remaining 2-0 until the Lady Aviators exploded in the final two innings.
Julia Campen led off with a single, followed by Owens single and a walk by Elizabeth Connelly with one out. A fielder's choice kept the bases loaded with two outs. Kimmy Halpin’s bases loaded walk made the score 3-0. Olivia Marinelli singled in one run to increase the lead to 4-0. Then Vizzachero cleared the bases with a triple, breaking open the game at 7-0, and scored on Alexa Marinelli’s double to make it 8-0.
Olivia Marinelli pitched around trouble to pick up the shutout win for the Lady Aviators, allowing six hits and overcoming four errors, while striking out seven and improving her record to 6-1.
Autumn Thorpe had three hits and an RBIs, while Olivia Marinelli added two hits and three RBIs to the attack.
