HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights girls tennis team opened the 2020 season with a 4-1 victory over Immaculate Conception at the Neal McCarthy Courts at Hasbrouck High School.
First singles Devin Sonzogni led the way with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Sierra Nicholas for the Aviators. Ati Kavahilil defeated Tatiana Sawka in second singles. The doubles pairings of Julia Trexler and Victoria Todd (1st doubles) and Meaghan Shaw and Diana Saad were both victorious to give Heights the 4-1 win.
"We are very pleased with our solid team performance today and especially with first singles player Devon Sonzogni. Devon showed a great deal of poise when her opponent capitalized on unforced errors early in the second set and took a 3-0 lead," said Hasbrouck Heights head coach Suzanne Caines. "Devon focused and regrouped, winning the next 6 games to clinch her match. Ati Karahalil also had a strong match at 2nd singles, where she won in straight sets."
"Both doubles teams also won handily," said Caines. "All in all, it was a good day for our team and a nice way to kick off this unusual season."
