NEW YORK, NY - Hasbrouck Heights Girls Indoor Track Team captured the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Indoor Track title Monday afternoon at the 168th Street Armory in New York City. The Boys team finished fifth.
Monika Lucic was a one-girl team for Heights, which edged Glen Rock 72-70, in the team competition. Lucic won the 55 High Hurdles (9.3) , and Triple Jump 33- 9.5, and finished third in the 800 meters (2:32.8) and High Jump (4-8). She was joined by teammates Mia Minichiello, who finished fifth in the 800 meters (2:36.1), Gianna DiLascio who came in second in the 3200 (12:46.3) and fifth in the 1600 (5:54.6), and Haylie Thomas 15-4.5 in the long jump.
The 4 x 400 relay team came in second with a time of 4:30.4.
But the event that put Hasbrouck Heights over the top was the pole vault, as three jumpers, Natalie Stefannie (2nd - 8 feet), Kelly Innis and Grace Kellogg (tied for third at 7-6) scored points. Glen Rock’s Samantha Cioppo won the event with a jump of 9-6, but the depth the Aviators gave them the advantage in points.
On the boys’ side, Maliki Burrell finished second in 55 meters (6.8) and long jump. Distance runner Ryan Mernin was the iron man, finishing sixth in the 800 meters (2:08.3), fifth in the 1600 meters (4:49.3) and third in the 3200 meters.
Bryan Cobcobo took home fifth place in the pole vault, while Marcus Ochoa took home fourth in the shot put with a toss of 41-5. The 4 x 400 relay also came in fourth with a time of 3:44.1.
