My name is Rudy R. Baez and I am running for Hasbrouck Heights Council.

My reason for running for Council is simple; as a resident of Hasbrouck Heights for over a decade and two young children in our public schools, I know the impact that local government has on the quality of life for all of our residents.

Leadership means listening to everyone, shelving personal agendas and representing ALL of the people. That’s how I lead as the Principal of a high performing high school, and that’s how I’ll lead when serving as your representative on the Hasbrouck Heights Council.

If we want to address the many concerns facing us here in Hasbrouck Heights—high taxes, maintaining quality education, and expanding infrastructure just to name a few—we need leaders who understand and are willing to reach out to all constituents and establish partnerships with our residents, our schools, and local businesses to find solutions. I firmly believe that the candidates on the TEAM HEIGHTS ballot,  are those leaders.

City government should be transparent and inclusive. While working as a volunteer on various campaigns, I learned how good leadership can balance the needs of all constituents, with particular attention to those whose needs often go unmet.  Our town continues to grow and change and we must evolve to meet the ever-changing needs and demands of our community.

We all have less money in our pockets than a few years ago.  When elected, I will work hard with the mayor and council to make sure your tax dollars are not wasted. I believe our best days are still ahead of us if we use our resources properly. I will use my experience as a school building leader and my dedication to our community to strike a balance between being fiscally-responsible while maintaining the quality of borough services that we expect as local residents.  In order to do so, I will work with small and large businesses to help bring jobs for our citizens, revenues to our tax base, and create a flourishing Business District on the Boulevard. I will support Police and Firefighters to ensure that your family resides in safe, crime-free neighborhoods. I will continue to upgrade town infrastructure such as repairing roadways and improving open spaces in order to ensure that Hasbrouck Heights remains a desirable place to live, work, and raise a family.

Our leaders must have a vision that voices the needs and aspirations of every resident in Hasbrouck Heights, not just a select few. We need to create a council with a  consistent, steady, unflinching focus on what is best for the citizens of Hasbrouck Heights, not on our individual, personal preferences. Maintaining this focus is not easy, nor is it the result of what is popular at the time. It requires communication, respect for one another, and objectivity. With your vote, I can be that voice. Having developed positive relationships with everyone on the Council, I am in a unique position to serve as a consensus builder. Together we can build the borough that will serve our children for generations. I stand ready to help lead this community in a new, positive, and productive direction.
