Heights Freshman Boys Soccer Defeats Dumont, 3-0

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights High School boys freshman team defeated Dumont High School 3-0, Monday afternoon at Hitchcock Field in Heights.

Mehtaab Singh scored Heights’ first goal six minutes into the game when he chipped the ball over the Dumont goalie.  The Aviators extended their lead at the 18-minute mark of the second half when Tommy Capozzi fed Andrew Oettinger, giving Heights a 2-0 lead.  A minute later,  Capozzi scored from the left side of the Dumont goal for the game’s final score.

Connor Friedel had eight saves and recorded his first shutout of the season.  Hasbrouck Heights had 25 shots on goal.

The Aviators next game is Wednesday, at 4 PM, at Waldwick High School.  -  George Friedel

 

Hasbrouck Heights Girls Tennis Drops 3-2 Decision

PALISADES PARK - The Hasbrouck Heights Varsity Girls Tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to Palisades Park Monday afternoon in Palisades Park.   The loss dropped the Lady Aviators to 0-2 on the season.

Heights returns to the courts on Wednesday, as they take on Immaculate Conception at Hasbrouck Heights at 4 pm.

W-1st Singles: Rita Totonjie (HH) def. Ruiyan Jin (PP);  6-1; 6-2

W-2nd Singles: Patrixia Rosario (HH) def Ellen Bang ; 7-6 (7-3); 4-6; 6-2

L- 3rd Singles: Grace Tutelo (HH) was defeated by Annika Kim: 3-6; 2-6

L- 1st Doubles: Michelle Schwartz & Anne Khalil (HH) were defeated by Esther Ko & Grace Kim; 4-6; 3-6

L- 2nd Doubles: Jessica Geigges & Angleliq (HH) were defeated by Sein Kim & Rachel Lee; 0-6; 2-6

 

JV Football Cruises By St. Mary, 40-0.

RUTHERFORD, NJ - Behind the strong running of Michael Robertson and Rocco Minichiello, the Hasbrouck Heights junior varsity football team cruised past St. Mary, 40-0, in football action Monday afternoon in Rutherford.

Long Beach Island Summer Shuttle No Longer A Free Ride

BRANT BEACH - The Long Beach Island Shuttle, an extremely popular service for visitors and residents of Long Beach Island, will have a fee for the first time beginning Memorial Day weekend. 

The Long Beach Township Board of Commissioners made the announcement at their meeting on Monday, April 9. 

Here is the overview on the fees:

One-way shuttle rides from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Bateman Bill, “ Bijou’s Law”, to Require Training, Licensing for Pet Groomers

TRENTON, NJ - State Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman (R-16) will introduce legislation to increase protections for family pets by requiring pet groomers to be properly trained and licensed following the deaths of three dogs in five months at different New Jersey pet salons. .

“It is sadly far too common for us to read of dog grooming deaths in the news,” said Bateman.

Carlo's Bake Shop Closes Westfield Location

WESTFIELD, NJ – Carlo’s Bake Shop, known from the TLC network show “Cake Boss,” closed its E. Broad Street storefront this week.

Passerby on the street noticed on Tuesday that the store was closed. A sign in the window reads that the bakery is relocating, but a new location was not specified.
