MOUNT OLIVE-  You can forgive Hasbrouck Heights’ Hunter Freschi if the NJSIAA Region 2 tournament seems to have a bit of a Groundhogs Day feeling.

Wrestling at 152 pounds, Freschi captured his first round match in the Region 2 tournament by defeating Wayne Valley’s Ryan Collela by a 6-1 decision in the 8-9 match Wednesday evening at Mount Olive High School.  Freschi, who finished second in the District 7 tournament last weekend, defeated Collela by decision, 4-1, on Saturday to advance to the Regionals.

He will face top seed Alex Strashinsky of Bergen Catholic, who captured the 152 at the District 7 tournament, in his next match. Freschi is hoping to break out of the Groundog Day motif, as Strashinky captured the title with a pinfall in the first round.
