HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - Jaden Picinich scored three times, but it was two timely takeaways by the Hasbrouck Heights defense, that led the Junior Aviators to a 21-14 win over Manchester Tuesday evening at Depken Field in a Meadowlands Football League game.
Picinich broke a 50-yard touchdown run to get Hasbrouck Heights on the board 1:30 into the game. The conversion failed, and the Aviators led 6-0.
Manchester bounced back, scoring on a short run to go up 7-6 following a successful conversion.
Picinich once again broke a long run, taking a 12-7 lead with 43 second remaining in the first half. The conversion was good, making the score 13-7.
Manchester was undeterred, and hit on a 50-yard pass play with 21 seconds left in the half, taking the lead into halftime following the successful conversion.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Picinich scored from five yards out on the first play for the fourth quarter for a 19-14 lead. Hasbrouck Heights Matthew Sampieri kicked the extra two (worth two points in junior football) and the Aviators led 21-14
The Falcons were driving into Aviators territory when Eion Maloney came away with a strip/fumble recovery at the Heights 20. Following a drive which chewed up the clock, Manchester got the ball back on downs with under one minute remaining.
The Falcons hit a pass over the middle for a 20 plus yard gain, but once again the ball was stripped from the Manchester ballcarrier, and once again the Aviators recovered.
The Junior Aviators took a knee run out the clock and come away with the victory.
The Junior Aviators improved to 3-0 with the win.
The Seniors game was rescheduled to November 2, while the Pee-Wees lost to on Saturday, 19-0
