HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ --While Mickey O’Malley was on the journey of being the third state wrestling champion in Hasbrouck Heights High School history, the Hasbrouck Heights recreation program has been laying the groundwork for future champions.

Twenty three wrestlers advanced to the Regions Tournament held February 25 at Hackensack High School, having advanced from the District 5 Tournament held on February 18 at Hasbrouck Heights.  The Regions Tournament had teams from four other districts in the Twin County Junior Wrestling lead, which encompasses 52 teams from across Bergen, Passaic, Hudson and Morris counties.

“The Region tournament is the second toughest tournament of the year behind the State Championships in Trenton." head coach  Andrew Nass said. " I thought our kids were very well-prepared, both physically and mentally, and it showed in our matches on Sunday

“All of the boys wrestled incredibly well, and I am very proud of how they represented themselves and our town. We pulled off some amazing upsets and came within inches or seconds in a few matches of taking home a few more medals, but to take home six medals as a team is an amazing accomplishment, one that the other coaches and I are very proud of.”

The list of medal winners from the Regions tournament:

1st Place - Connor Scuilla

2nd Place - Rocco Pantiliano, Harris Krommenhoek, and Hunter Freschi

3rd Place - Oliver Fermin and Andrew Parente

The State Championships will be held in Trenton on March 10 and 11. Wrestlers will need to qualify for the state in one of the eight state qualifying events held throughout the season.
