TETERBORO, NJ - The Teterboro Mayor and Council honored Moonachie Police Sergeant Thomas Schmidt for his service to the borough at its Tuesday night meeting. He retired on January 1. Also in attendance was Schmidt's family, members of the Moonachie Police Department, and the Moonachie Mayor and Council

Mayor John P. Watt recognized Sergeant Thomas Schmidt for his 25 years of service with the Moonachie Police Department, 24 of which were served patrolling the Borough of Teterboro. Watt read from a letter that Schmidt had previously submitted to the Mayor and Council, detailing his resignation, saying he wanted to "express my gratitude and appreciation in being able to serve Teterboro since 1996...over these years, I have served in different capacities which has allowed me to work closely with many of Teterboro's employees" including court, DPW, and municipal staff. "Every borough employee has been professional, friendly, and a pleasure to work with. Thank you for making me feel like one of your own all these years."

Watt then presented Schmidt a commendation, which partially read, "for distinguished service in honor of your outstanding performance and dedication... we wish to express our sincere appreciation in recognition for high standards of excellence in providing 24 years of distinguished police service to the borough of Teterboro."
