WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -- The Wood-Ridge Police Department arrested two individuals on multiple charges in connection with a dumpster fire early Thursday morning in the borough.

According to Wood-Ridge Detective Sergeant Joseph Biamonte, Jr., Officers Mark Torsiello and Devin Ochiuzzo were called to the area of 250 South Main Street in Wood-Ridge for a report of a dumpster fire at 12:55am on Thursday, August 22.  Officers responded to the scene along with the Wood-Ridge Fire Department. The fire was extinguished quickly without incident.

An eyewitness reported to Torsiello and Ochiuzzo that two individuals, a male and a female, were at the scene igniting the fire.  The witness provided a description of the two individuals, and that they arrived in a dark colored vehicle with a spare tire attached to the rear.  Officers located the vehicle and conduct a motor vehicle stop.  After speaking with both occupants who fit the description given and receiving conflicting stories, the officers determined that the male,  now identified as Ricardo Nortelus from Miami, Fl, and the female, Vanessa Hyman from Leonia, NJ were responsible for the dumpster fire.  A subsequent search of the vehicle after the arrests produced a small quantity of marijuana, loose prescription pills and paraphernalia.

Both defendants were released on a summons pending a court date at Bergen County Central Judicial Processing and the Wood-Ridge Municipal Court.  Chief John T. Korin would like the public to know that all defendants arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
