WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -- Three students were honored at the start of the Wood-Ridge Board of Education meeting in the high school auditorium on Monday evening.

Silvia Raguseo, Director of Special Services for Wood-Ridge and Moonachie, introduced Ricky Conti, who will be the first-ever Valedictorian of the South Bergen Jointure Commission's Lodi Campus. Graduation ceremonies are set for Friday.

"This is a huge accomplishment, and we couldn't be more proud," said Raguseo. "He's outgoing, hardworking, and friendly," she continued. "He's taken an active leadership role in school, and he's participated in Read Across America every year. And he goes to the pre-school and elementary school to read to the students.

"He will do anything to make people smile. In fact, he dresses up as Santa Claus every year and participates in a holiday sing-a-long for the younger students."

Raguseo said Conti is involved in robotics, intramurals, and chess club. He participates in a job transition program learning new skills. He will continue his education in the fall. 

Superintendent of Schools Nicholas Cipriano said that he will be attending the SBJC's monthly BOE meeting, where Conti will also be recognized. 

Principal Keith Lisa recognized two Students of the Month for June from the Wood-Ridge Intermediate School, Riley J. Friedman and Marielle Bucud. He described Friedman as "selfless, caring, hardworking, .is a friend to all, and offers a helping hand to any student or teacher." His favorite subject is Math, and is a member of STEM Club, Band and Safety Patrol. His role models are his parents. 

Lisa said that Bucud is "kind to her peers, polite, and respectful to her teachers, and always puts her best foot forward." Her favorite subject is Math, and is involved in Band and Safey Patrol. She enjoys drawing, sketching, and painting sunsets. She looks up to her mother, a nurse, and asprires to be one when she grows up.
