WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -- The Wood-Ridge Fire Department Touch-a-Truck event turned into a welcomed respite from the stifling heat as the fire truck gently sprayed water to the residents and families who attended the Sunday event.

The event was open to the public to meet with members of the volunteer fire department. Children explored the fire truck, ambulance, and equipment. Complementary food, including hot dogs, sandwiches and drinks, was served.

The event was sponsored by Wesmont Wines and Market Fresh Supermarket - both which opened for business in the complex in the past seven months.

Alap Desai of Wesmont Wines said he reached out to the fire department with the idea about the event about three weeks ago. He thanked Market Fresh for providing the food.

First Assistant Chief Elizabeth A. Ferry said the Wood-Ridge Fire Department was happy to come and interact with the community in a positive way.
