WOOD-RIDGE - A full calendar of events, including Yoga, a St. Patrick's Day celebration and more are on a tap at the Wood-Ridge Library in March. 

Yoga Storytime with Miss Danielle

The Wood-Ridge Memorial Library will host free Yoga Storytime classes for toddlers on Wednesday, March 14 and Wednesday, March 28 at 10:00am and 11:00am.  Join Miss Danielle for stories, stretching and simple yoga poses.  Children ages 2-5 and their caregivers are warmly invited to attend, and may register for one session on each date.  Classes with be held at the Wood-Ridge Civic Center. The Wood-Ridge Memorial Library will host a St. Patrick's Day Storytime and Craft with Miss Sharon on Saturday, March 17 at 11:00am.  Children ages 3-7 and their caregivers are warmly invited to attend. Music with Miss Nita

Circle Time with Sukey Molloy

The Wood-Ridge Memorial Library will host Circle Time! with Sukey Molloy on Thursday, March 8 and Thursday, March 22 at 10:00am and 11:00am.  Join Sukey Molloy for her award winning series of musical play activities, designed to encourage movement, play and song in the developing years. Kanopy Film Streaming Service at Wood-Ridge Memorial Library

Kanopy, a popular, on-demand film streaming service, is now available for free for card holders of the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library.  Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema. Wood-Ridge Memorial Library card holders receive four play credits per month, with each play allowing 72-hours of unlimited access to the selected film.  To start streaming films, please register by visiting the library's website at https://woodridgememoriallibrary.org/

Wood-Ridge Memorial Library Helps with Tracing Family Trees

The Wood-Ridge Memorial Library has two new resources to make tracing family trees easier:  Ancestry® Library Edition and HeritageQuest Online.  Ancestry® Library Edition delivers billions of records in census data, vital records, directories, photos, and more. The world’s most popular consumer online genealogy resource is now available for in-house use at the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library. Sign up at the Circulation Desk to use a library computer, or bring your own laptop or tablet to access Ancestry® Library Edition via the Library’s Wi-Fi.  HeritageQuest® Online is a comprehensive treasury of American genealogical and historical sources, with coverage dating back to the 1700s. It features the U.S. Federal Censuses from 1790 through 1940, city directories, Revolutionary War records, Freedman’s Bank Records, and more.  HeritageQuest® Online may be accessed either within the library or remotely with a Wood-Ridge Memorial Library card  number through the library's website at https://woodridgememoriallibrary.org/

Wood-Ridge Memorial Library Adds LearningExpress Library™

Improving computer skills, preparing for college admissions tests, and passing a career licensing exam just got easier with LearningExpress Library, now available through the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library's website.  This extensive collection of digital resources includes interactive tutorials, practice tests, and more than 200 downloadable eBooks.  Online practice tests are available for the GED, PSAT, SAT, AP, TOEFL iBT, and U.S. citizenship exams.  Patrons can also master computer skills in popular software applications with tutorials from basic to advanced levels.  LearningExpress Library resources are available free of charge to Wood-Ridge Memorial Library card holders  through the library's website at https://woodridgememoriallibrary.org/

Wood-Ridge Memorial Library Book Club

On Tuesday, March 20 at 7:15pm, join your neighbors and friends at the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library to discuss The Family Man by Elinor Lipman.  Copies of the book are available at the Circulation Desk.  All are welcome. 

PAWS To Read

Young readers wanted!   On Monday, March 12 and Monday, March 26 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, children are invited to the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library to read to Rodney, an award-winning certified therapy dog.  Children ages 5 and older may register for a 15-minute session.  Therapy dogs provide a safe, nurturing experience for emergent readers to practice their literacy skills.  To register, please call the Library at (201) 438-2455.

English as a Second Language

The Wood-Ridge Memorial Library hosts English as a Second Language classes for adults at no charge. Classes meet every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday morning at 10:15 am.  No registration is required.  For more information, please call the Library at (201) 438-2455.

Wood-Ridge Memorial Library Chess Club

On Wednesdays, March 7, March 14, March 21, and March 28 the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library will host a free Chess Club for learners of all ages.  Children meet from 3:00pm - 4:00pm and adult beginning players meet from 4:00 - 4:30pm.    Designed for all ability levels, the Chess Club is led by a coach who can teach new chess players the basics, and help experienced players sharpen their skills.

Museum Passes

The Wood-Ridge Memorial Library is lending free admission passes to 12 NJ and NYC museums. Museums include the American Museum of Natural History, the Aviation Hall of Fame & Museum of New Jersey, the Museum of Modern Art, the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, and Grounds for Sculpture.  New for 2018 is the Paley Center for Media, formerly The Museum of Television & Radio.  Each pass offers free admission for multiple guests; some passes offer additional discounts at the museum's gift shop.  Passes may be borrowed by any Wood-Ridge resident, age 18 and older, with a library card in good standing. Passes are loaned for three days and may be reserved online through the Library's website at WoodRidgeMemorialLibrary.org. Thyroid Cancer Support

Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association, Inc. will meet on Thursday, March 1, from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library.  All are welcome.  No registration required. 

Park Avenue Toastmasters

Looking to develop speaking and leadership skills? Ace a job interview? Ignite your career? Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development.  The Park Avenue Toastmasters will meet at the Wood-Ridge Memorial Library on Monday, March 5 and Monday, March  19  from 6:30 to 8:15 pm.

Long Beach Island Summer Shuttle No Longer A Free Ride

BRANT BEACH - The Long Beach Island Shuttle, an extremely popular service for visitors and residents of Long Beach Island, will have a fee for the first time beginning Memorial Day weekend. 

The Long Beach Township Board of Commissioners made the announcement at their meeting on Monday, April 9.

Bateman Bill, “ Bijou’s Law”, to Require Training, Licensing for Pet Groomers

TRENTON, NJ - State Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman (R-16) will introduce legislation to increase protections for family pets by requiring pet groomers to be properly trained and licensed following the deaths of three dogs in five months at different New Jersey pet salons. .

“It is sadly far too common for us to read of dog grooming deaths in the news,” said Bateman.
