WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - The Wood-Ridge Police Department held its annual active shooter training drills after hours at Wood-Ridge High School.

Police departments are required to do 16 hours of active shooter training per year as mandated by the New Jersey Attorney General's office, according to Wood-Ridge Police Chief John Korin. The borough's police are "perpetually training...doing quite a bit more" than is required. He also noted of the 24-man department, the majority of officers also serve on the regional SWAT team or rapid response teams.

The officers trained in a secured area of the building with real weapons but without live ammunition. Korin explained "the importance of coordinating with the school to use areas that are secured and blocked off from the public." He also said "they have the Superintendent and Principal of the schools they are training in on board." He said they used the electronic bulletin boards to notify the public of the training.
