WOOD-RIDGE, NJ - Wood-Ridge senior Nikolas Giglio has been nominated for this week's USA Football Heart of a Giant Award. Students are nominated by their coaches for their commitment, teamwork, will, character, and dedication.
During the divorce of Nikolas Giglio’s parents freshman year, football helped him manage his emotions.
“When on the football field, everything in my life kind of leaves my mind and I focus on nothing but football,” said Giglio.
Giglio is well respected in school, as he’s captain of the football team, basketball team, and track team. When Giglio is not in school or playing sports, he works in the hospital to learn more about the career he wants to pursue. Giglio hopes to graduate from high school and move on to college to become a doctor.
“On the field he stands out, a leader a role model and tremendous young man,” said Head Coach Charles Trentacosti.
The 2019 USA Football Heart of a Giant Award presented by Hospital for Special Surgery and NY Giants announced their fifth set of ten outstanding Tri-State area high school football player nominees open for voting.
Voting for these nominees will be open for 25 days with final vote tally determining who will be named the group’s finalist. One grand prize winner will be selected based on video submissions stating why they have the Heart of a Giant and will be honored on the field during a New York Giants’ home game. All six finalists and four honorable mention finalists will receive $1,000 for their high school’s football program, with the winner’s school getting an additional $9,000.
