My wife, Tammy, and I grew up in Hasbrouck Heights and have owned our home here for 27 years. My daughter, Amanda, son, John, and daughter, Jacqueline, all graduated from Hasbrouck Heights High School, as we did. After high school, I joined the United States Army and served as a Military Police Officer. Upon my honorable discharge from the Army, I was hired as a Hasbrouck Heights Police Officer. I attended the Bergen County Police Academy and went on to protect our community for twenty-five years, retiring as a Detective Captain. During my tenure with the H.H.P.D., I was an instructor for police procedures and tactics and was proud to work with and mentor our youth in the capacity of D.A.R.E. Officer, Juvenile Officer and Bike Marathon Coordinator, among other assigned responsibilities. I am currently a partner in a business located on the Boulevard in Hasbrouck Heights.
I was elected for three terms to the position of Trustee to the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education, serving one term as president. In my first term as a member of the buildings and grounds committee we installed the first turf field in Hasbrouck Heights behind the high school for our soccer programs. While I was President, I worked with the Board members and the Mayor and Council to plan for and oversee the renovation of the Depken Field facility. The installation of a turf field and the rebuild of our track allowed us to host county and state wide track meets with pride.
I have had the opportunity to coach Hasbrouck Heights youth sports for twenty-five years. I enjoyed coaching the children of Hasbrouck Heights in Little League, Girls Basketball, Soccer and Softball as well as Junior Football. It was a great experience to watch them grow and getting to know their families was a true honor.
Hasbrouck Heights continues to be a community where we work together to accomplish things to improve our borough. We make an effort to be inclusive and welcome residents who want to be involved by asking them to serve on our many committees. Many enhancements to our programs have been made based on resident feedback. I am very proud to have worked with our residents and various organizations to make Hasbrouck Heights the strong community that it is today. Our “No-Knock” Registry is a perfect example of resident involvement in assuring that we have a safe community.
As your Mayor, working with members of the Council, we have been able to keep your municipal tax increase to less than .05% over the past 4 years. While keeping taxes low, we have added services for our residents and continue to improve public safety. We are exploring options to improve our website in an effort to make it more user-friendly and to provide a more convenient and efficient means of conducting business with all borough departments.
I am proud to be from Hasbrouck Heights and proud to be your Mayor. I ask for your support in my re-election on Tuesday, November 5th, so that together we can continue to make positive strides in this wonderful community that we call home.
