I’m Dylan O’Byrne, and I’m running for a position on the Wood-Ridge Board of Education. I attended all Wood-Ridge public schools, and since graduating in 2013, I haven’t seen much change, and that’s why I’m running. If you haven’t had the chance to visit my campaign site, I’d love it if you would, but for now, know that if I’m elected I will be looking to create greater transparency, real collaboration, improved information tracking, and better planning. With Coronavirus, these things are more important now than ever, and we need to start doing things differently.
Over the next few months, I'd like for every member of the Wood-Ridge community to follow what happens with the Wood-Ridge school district and my campaign to discover why change here is vital. By the time November 3rd, 2020 rolls around, and it's time to vote, I hope that I will have been able to show everyone exactly why I am the right person for the job.
Until then, I will be working tirelessly to earn your support. Thank you for your consideration, and go Blue Devils.
I graduated from Seton Hall University in 2017 with concentrations in business management, marketing, and entrepreneurial studies. Since then, I have worked in the film industry in NYC, but at 25, I have decided I would like to pursue my passion for financially advising individual clients as well as educating people on personal finance instead. I have so far passed the Series 65 which allows me to give financial advice, I am taking courses with Boston University to become a Certified Financial Planner®, and I hope to sit for the CFP® Exam in March. I was featured in a CNBC Money article for my thrift, and other financial skills, and during the pandemic, I have been able to use those skills to do pro bono work in helping people navigate the unemployment system, manage their debt, and design household budgets, amongst other things.
There is of course life beyond that of my professional life. I enjoy the outdoors and traveling, with my greatest trip to date being a road trip that took me to all 50 states, over the course of 3 months, while I lived in the back of my car. Another thing I enjoy is playing music, practicing the piano, and singing whenever the opportunity arises. I also take the time to read a lot, and a wide variety at that, ranging from books on psychology to science fiction. Last, but certainly not least, I volunteer whenever I can. Being a member of the Boy Scouts, and further becoming an Eagle Scout, greatly instilled the want to give my time back to my community whenever I can.
