Dear Editor;

     The United States day by day is getting hit atrociously by COVID-19, not only by fatalities but by the number of people losing their jobs and their housing due to eviction. Another one-time payment of $1,200 with short term unemployment benefits from either the HEALS or HEROES propositions is still not enough. According to a recent story on Forbes, 156 economists have urged Congress to pass legislation that includes ongoing direct payments (until the economy recovers), extended federal unemployment benefits and other aid sources like expanding food stamps.

      With a continued economic downturn, more consumer spending will decrease.  If there is no ongoing money recirculating, the economy stalls. People will spend this money on critical necessities like utilities, groceries, and medicine. The rent is due! Groceries are up! Health insurance is due! The people cannot wait.

It is time for Democrats & Republicans to get their act together & listen to the people. We need help. We need an end to partisan gridlock. If the two parties can rescue top industries, then they should do the right thing and enact a “Main Street stimulus.”
