Lego Club – Join the Hasbrouck Heights Lego Club!  Show off your architectural talents and come create with us on Tuesday, December 3 and 17 starting at 3:30 p.m. for ages 5-12. Legos will be provided.

Santa Story Times –Join us for a jolly visit from Santa! We will read stories, have time to give Santa your lists and take pictures. We will be having two visits this year, so be sure to register for only ONE visit: Wednesday, December 11 at 11:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. 

Holiday Bingo – Join us for a game of Holiday Bingo and win prizes! We will be meeting on Friday, December 13 starting at 3:30 p.m. 

Movies at the Library - School's out for Winter Break, so join us for some afternoon movies!  Show starts at 1:30 p.m. on December 23, 26 and 27 for everyone.  Refreshments will be served.

Book Clubs for Kids – Join one of our two book clubs for kids!  Books for both groups, along with more information is available at the Children’s Desk.

  • Best Books is for students in grades 2-3; meets on the first Friday of each month.
  • Critics’ Choice is for students in grades 4-6; meets on the third Friday of each month. 

Winter Storytime Registration - Start your winter mornings with stories! Registration starts on Wednesday, January 2, 2020. Classes begin Tuesday, January 21 and will run for six weeks. Registration is required. Please call 201- 288-0485 or stop by the Children’s Desk.

Teen Advisory Board – Make your voice heard—join the Teen Advisory Board! We meet on the second Thursday of each month. Teens can participate in community service projects, learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities, have a say in teen programming at the library, and make suggestions for books to add to the library’s YA collection. Our next meeting is Thursday, December 12 from 4-5 pm.

Movie and Ugly Gingerbread Sweater Decorating – Come and make the ugliest, yummiest of gingerbread men with us and watch a seasonal movie! Wearing ugly holiday sweaters is encouraged. For those in 7th grade and up. This event will be on Monday, December 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Teen Readers’ Club – We meet on the first Monday of the month to discuss a book, eat snacks and play games. Copies of each month’s book will be available for checkout at the front desk. On Monday, January 6 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. we will discuss Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle.



Just in time for the holidays!  The Library will sponsor a fun-filled afternoon for teens and adults to create their very own winter-themed ornaments of snowmen and candy cane decorations to add to the festivities of the season.  This craft project will be held on Wednesday, December 18 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Library’s conference room. 


Showcase Artist The artwork of Julia Guzzio will be on display in the Adult Services/Reference section of the library through December 2019. Julia is a multitalented artist who creates art through many media, including drawings, paintings, photographs, video performance art and poetry. Her work has been exhibited at Ringwood and Englewood Public Libraries as well as spaces in Brooklyn, Cutchogue, Easthampton and Sensei, New York. 

Collectibles on Display – The Free Public Library of Hasbrouck Heights will be hosting a traveling exhibit from the Meadowlands Museum for the months of December and January.  This traveling exhibit will feature an array of antique toys in celebration of the upcoming holiday season.  The Meadowlands Museum is a nonprofit charitable organization.  To learn more about the Meadowlands Museum and its programs, please visit their website at https://www.meadowlandsmuseum.com/.

Monday Afternoons at the Library: From Equinox to Solstice: The Seasons and How We Celebrate Them The “Monday Afternoons at the Library” series of seminars presents Jim DelGiudice, photographer and educator, on Monday, December 16 from 3-4 p.m. His lecture will discuss the love of holidays and how the calendar seasons relate to them. A lifelong New Jersey resident, Jim has been honored several times with the NJ Historic Preservation Award.

Adult Book Group – The Adult Book Group will take a break for the busy holiday season. Join us in the new year! We will meet for a fun and friendly talk and refreshments on the fourth Tuesday of the month, 7 p.m. The next meeting on Tuesday, January 28 will focus on Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep, the story of an Alabama serial killer and the true-crime book that Harper Lee worked on in the years after To Kill a Mockingbird. Copies of the novel will be available at the front desk.
