For Children

Summer Reading Program- Libraries hold a “Universe of Stories”!  There’s still time to register for the summer reading club.   Keep your brains sharp and ready this summer by reading and collecting prizes for all that you read.  Stop by the library for more details.  Last day to collect prizes is Friday, August 30.

Outrageous Pets Program- Join us for a special animal program featuring the wonderful Outragehisss Pets on Friday, August 16 at 3:30 p.m for kids of all ages! Registration required. 

Read to a Dog- Want to practice your reading skills this summer?  Come read to a DOG! Join us every Wednesday in August at 6:30 PM.   Space is limited.  Please register.

Lego Club – Join the Hasbrouck Heights Lego Club on Tuesdays, August 6 & 20 starting at 3:30 p.m. for ages 5-12.  Show off your architectural talents and come build with us.  Legos will be provided.   

Chess Club - Come improve and test your skills on Fridays, August 9 & 23 starting at 3:30 p.m.! Members must have some knowledge of chess. 

Space Bingo – Join us for a game of Space Bingo and win prizes on Thursdays, August 8 & 22 starting at 3:30 p.m. for ages 5-12.
Movies at the Library – Beat the heat and join us for an afternoon movie and refreshments.  The movie will start at 1:15-3:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, August 13 & 27 for kids of all ages.

Space Craft – Join us for a craft that is out of this world on Thursday, August 15 starting at 3:30 p.m. for kids of all ages.  Limited to 25.  Registration required.

Fill'em up Fridays – Come in every Friday in August and for every 10 items you check out of the Children's Department, you will be given a ticket to enter in a raffle drawing at the end of the month for a chance to win various gift cards. 

For Teens

Summer Reading Contest – Teens entering grades 7-12 can earn raffle tickets for every book they read this summer, even books on school reading lists.   1 book = 200 pages. Come to the library to register and create your book log. Books must be recorded between June 17 and August 23. Raffle prizes will be drawn on August 26.  The more you read the better are your chances to win!

Teen Readers Club // Summer Edition – Do you LOVE to read? Sign-up for our five-week program where we will discuss the book, eat snacks, and play games!  For teens entering grades 7-12.  We meet on Wednesday from 3:00-4:30 pm.  Teens who have attended 3 out of 5 book club meetings are invited to an end-of-summer wrap-up party.

Young Adult Mondays – Starting at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays in August, there will be a special event for teens. From trivia, arts and crafts, to movies and ice cream, join us for some fun! For teens entering grades 7-12.  Stop by the library for more details.

Summer Wrap Up Party - Teens who have actively participated in our Summer Reading Program, along with teens who have attended 3 out of the 5 book club meetings are invited to an end of summer wrap up party! We will be having pizza, ice cream and watching a movie! Program runs from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26. 

For Adults

Book Bingo – Patrons 18 years old or older are eligible to participate.  Bingo sheets can be picked up at the Circulation Desk.   Take your reading game to the next level with categories such as “Try an audiobook” and “Read a book about Space.” Get bingo and your name will be entered in a drawing to win various prizes.  Patrons can enter as many times they like.  You do not need to be a resident to participate; this program is open to all library patrons. Call for details.

Trivia Contest – Calling all sci-fi lovers.  Here’s your chance to show off what you know.  Answer three questions in a row correctly and you win a prize.  Stop by the Front Desk and ask staff how you can participate.  

Craft-to-Share Club - Meetings will now run through the summer. The craft club is held the first Tuesday evening of the month from 6:30 -8:30 pm and the third Wednesday afternoon of every month from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. The next evening meeting will be August 6 and the next afternoon meeting will be August 21. New participants are always welcome.  Club has adopted a philosophy of giving to the community. Some of the participants have donated handmade items, such as afghans and caps, to the patients of Hackensack University Medical Center, and Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund.  The Library would be pleased to accept donations of yarn on behalf of the Club.

Adult Book Club – Join us on Tuesday, August 27 at 7 p.m. for conversation and refreshments about Two-Family House by Lynda Cohen Loigman.  A story that focuses on two families that are inextricably linked by blood, marriage, and a long-held secret.  Copies of this book are available at the Front Desk for pickup.
