Here’s your chance to curl up with a book or watch a movie, huddle under the blankets, and get lost in a good story. The Library is here to help, from recommendations to getting you the classic you missed out on.

Winter Storytime Registration – Welcome the New Year with stories! Registration starts on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 22 and will run for six weeks. Registration is required. Please call (201) 288-0485 or stop by the Children’s Desk.

Pajama Story Time – Join us for an evening story time. Wearing pajamas is encouraged! We will be meeting on Monday, Jan. 7 starting at 7:30 p.m. for all ages.
Book Bingo – Join us for some fun and win prizes! We will be meeting on Thursday, Jan. 24 starting at 3:30 p.m. for ages 5-12.
Lego Club – Join us and show off your architectural talents. Legos will be provided. Tuesdays, Jan. 8 & 22 starting at 3:30 p.m. for ages 5-12.
Book Clubs for Kids – Join one of our two book clubs for kids. Books for both groups along with more information are available at the Children’s Desk.
- Best Books is for students in grades 2-3 and meets on the first Friday of each month.
- Critics’ Choice is for students in grades 4-6 and meets on the third Friday of each month.
Recycled DIY Club – Learn how to get crafty by using every day, recycled material. Our Recycled DIY club takes place on the first Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. No registration necessary.
Teen Readers’ Club – We meet on the second Monday of each month to discuss a book, eat snacks and play games. Copies of each month’s book are available for checkout at the front desk. On Monday, Jan. 14, from 7 to 8 p.m. we will discuss Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi.
Beginner Bullet Journaling – Start the year off neat and organized, start a Bullet Journal to help you make lists, take notes, and be on track to reach your 2019 goals. This event will be on Monday, Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m.
Teen Advisory Board – Make your voice heard! We meet on the third Thursday of each month. Teens can participate in community service projects, learn about upcoming volunteer opportunities, have a say in teen programming at the library, and make suggestions for books to add to the library’s YA collection. You will get volunteer hours for the meeting! Our next meeting date is Thursday, Jan. 17 from 4-5 pm.
For the Whole Family
Binge Watch Continues! Patrons who take out any combination of 10 Hasbrouck Heights-owned DVDs will receive a full-size box of candy and microwave popcorn. Any patron, regardless of residence, can participate. Take the opportunity to catch up on your shows or latest releases.
Healthy Eating with a Tasting – As part of our Monday Afternoons at the Library series, come learn with Julianne Gallo, a registered dietitian, on Monday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. She is employed by ShopRite of Lodi to provide free nutritional counseling services at the store and throughout the community. She will discuss how to make comfort foods a little lighter and more nutritious. She will prepare a cooking demo and guests will be able to have a food tasting! Registration is required.
Adult Book Club – Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 pm for a conversation and refreshments about One True Thing by Anna Quindlen. An intimate story about a young lady who makes the decision to return home to care for her dying mother. Copies of this book are available at the Front Desk for pickup.
An Expedition through a Thousand Books: An Evening with James Mustich.
Throughout the year 2019, the Library will be exploring the journey and adventure into reading using the newly published book 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die by James Mustich as our guide. Along with monthly displays, reviews, a reading contest and more, we are presenting an evening with the author himself and a discussion forum on his process in choosing these specific works for his first book. James Mustich has spent over forty years dedicated to the written word. Now working with Workman Publishing, he crafted his first book, 1,000 Books to Read Before You Die for all of the world to discover. Expect this entertaining evening with the author to be set mid-February. Please call for more details.
