ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Wood-Ridge High School Football Defense

WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -  Facing a must-win game against St. Mary on Saturday afternoon, the Wood-Ridge defense rose to the occasion, shutting down the Gael's offense, which received a boost for the game with junior transfer quarterback Matt Toman being eligible.  The unit has been named the Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 6.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS - So much for soccer being a low scoring game.

Emiland Elezaj scored seven goals in two games for Hasbrouck Heights Boys Soccer team last week to lead them to an undefeated start to the 2018 season.  The Aviators went 2-0 the opening week, handily defeating St. Mary 7-0, and Becton 5-0.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Dan Solazzo - Track & Field, New Jersey Senior Olympics

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - This week's Athlete of the Week is Hasbrouck Heights resident Dan Solazzo, who captured five gold medals Saturday in the New Jersey State Senior Olympics in Woodbridge.

The 86 year old Solazzo captured the 50 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash, Long Jump, Discus and Shot Put in the men's 85+ division.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK - Hasbrouck Heights 19 Girls Minor Division Champions

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- This team finished the season 13-0. With 13 straight shut outs. And zero runs scored on them. They played three games in four days to win the championship.

Certainly impressive for a college team. Or a high school team.

Except it  was Hasbrouck Heights 19, third and fourth graders in the Minor Division of the South Bergen Girls Softball League.
