WOOD-RIDGE, NJ -  Facing a must-win game against St. Mary on Saturday afternoon, the Wood-Ridge defense rose to the occasion, shutting down the Gael's offense, which received a boost for the game with junior transfer quarterback Matt Toman being eligible.  The unit has been named the Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 6.

With the Blue Devils offense struggling, the Wood-Ridge defense stepped up, shutting out the St. Mary offense (the only Gael's points were scored by their defense on a safety) and scoring a touchdown of their own, covering a fumble in the end zone.

Throughout the game, the Blue Devils consistently shut down the Gaels offense, with no room to spare, propelling Wood-Ridge to a 12-2 win over St. Mary, keeping their state playoff chances alive with the win.
