TRENTON, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy announced the newest number of presumptive positive cases of novel coronavirus and deaths at his Thursday afternoon press conference, where he announced that schools throughout the state would remain closed at least through May 14.

There were 4,391 new cases with 362 new deaths. Statewide, there are 75,317 positive cases and 3,518 deaths in total as of Wednesday. 

The Governor announced Bergen County continues to lead the state in cases with 11,409, and followed by Hudson (9,165), Essex (9,084), Union (7,904), Passaic (7,317) and Middlesex (6,994.)  There are a total of 668 deaths in Bergen County.

Judith Persichilli, Department of Health Commissioner, noted that there are 8,224 people hospitalized with COVID-19 or under investigation. Of those 2,014 are in critical care, and 1,645 of those people are on ventilators. She noted that 802 people were discharged from hospitals on Wednesday. In addition, she noted that 138,609 tests have been administered with 62,096 positive results, a 44.8% rate.

Bergen County Executive James Tedesco announced that there are 11,462 presumptive positive cases in the county as of 12 noon Thursday. Locally, Hasbrouck Heights has 137 cases, Wood-Ridge 93 cases, and Teterboro 3 cases.
