TRENTON, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy announced the newest number of presumptive positive cases of novel coronavirus and deaths at his Wednesday afternoon press conference, where he said it could be a very gradual return to pre-coronavirus life.

There were 2,625 new cases with 351 new deaths. Statewide, there are 71,030 positive cases and 3,156 deaths in total as of Wednesday. 

The Governor announced Bergen County continues to lead the state in cases with 10,848, and followed by Essex (8,579), Hudson (8,511), Union (7,438), Passaic (6,750) and Middlesex (6,576.)  There are a total of 608 deaths in Bergen County.

Judith Persichilli, Department of Health Commissioner, noted that there are 8,270 people hospitalized with COVID-19 or under investigation. Of those 1,980 are in critical care, and 1,705 of those people are on ventilators. She noted that 709 people were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday.

During the press conference, Persichilli also said there were 47 patients at the Meadowlands Field Station in Secaucus, and she expected and additional 25 by the end of Wednesday. She noted that they have discharged 32 patients.

Bergen County Executive James Tedesco announced that there are 10,898 presumptive positive cases in the county as of 12 noon Wednesday. Locally, Hasbrouck Heights has 126 cases, Wood-Ridge 91 cases, and Teterboro 3 cases.
