HACKENSACK, NJ -- Firehouse Subs, a chain sandwich shop founded by firefighters, has opened a sub shop in Hackensack. At Friday's grand opening, over a dozen members of the Hackensack Fire Department came out to support the franchise, and enjoy the hearty portions the franchise has become known for.

“It’s always exciting when new businesses open in our city and today is no exception,” said Hackensack Mayor John Labrosse, who was in attendance and enjoyed a roast beef sub. “Entering the store is like entering Hackensack history. The mural they had custom designed is a real tribute to our Fire Department, which recently received a Class #1 ranking in a Public Protection Classification (PPC) reevaluation conducted by the Insurance Services Office (ISO)."

According to Firehouse Subs Area Representative Ever Santana, this new Firehouse subs location was in development for close to a year, and will employ over 20 staffers. He maintained that the franchise takes pride in not just serving food, but celebrating the local Fire Departments where their stores are located. "When you come in here in Hackensack, you'll see a lot of vintage photos of the Hackensack Fire Department." Indeed, a beautiful mural has already been installed in the store.

Founded in Jacksonville, Florida in 1994 by former firefighter brothers Robin and Chris Sorensen, Firehouse Subs has placed an emphasis on giving back. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has donated over $35M in lifesaving equipment to first responders since 2005.

“Firehouse Subs will be a great addition to the city of Hackensack and I look forward to having them become part of our neighborhood,” said Deputy Mayor David Sims, who enjoyed a Turkey bacon ranch sub. “Their commitment to public safety is another reason why they deserve our support.”

This franchisee of the Hackensack location, Ilker Dinc, has plans to open four more Firehouse Subs in North Jersey in the coming months. He says he has already received approval and signed a lease to open Englewood location in November.
