TRENTON, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy released the newest number of positive cases of COVID-19 and deaths from around the state during his Friday afternoon press conference where he also announced the long-awaited guidance for sending children back to school in the fall.

There are 524 new cases with 44 new deaths. Statewide, there are 17,584 positive cases and 13,060 deaths, along with 1,854 probably COVID deaths, per Murphy. 

Bergen County Executive James Tedesco announced that there are 19,283 positive cases in the county as of 12 pm Friday. According to Tedesco, Hasbrouck Heights has 216 cases, Wood-Ridge has 148 cases, and Teterboro has 6 cases.

According to the governor, Bergen County has the most in cases in the state with 19,264, and followed by Hudson (18,788), Essex (18,666), Passaic (16,843), and Middlesex (16,685), with 701 under investigation.  There are a total of 1,718 deaths in Bergen County, while Essex County, continues to lead the state with 1,778, according to the governor.

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, Murphy noted a "slight increase from the day before" with 1,118 patients in the hospital being treated for COVID-19, with 234 patients were in ICU or critical care, and 206 patients on ventilators. There were 114 discharges and 59 new hospital admissions, according to the governor, who said "we remain in a good place" but urged residents to be vigilant with masks and social distancing in light of cases rising in other states.
