TRENTON, NJ - Governor Phil Murphy released the newest number of presumptive positive cases of novel coronavirus and deaths at his Thursday afternoon press conference, where he also addressed the continued backlog of New Jersey residents unemployment claims.

There are 1,827 new cases with 254 new deaths. Statewide, there are 133,635 positive cases and 8,801 deaths. 

Bergen County Executive James Tedesco announced that there are 16,653 presumptive positive cases in the county as of 12 noon Thursday. Locally, Hasbrouck Heights has 185 cases, Wood-Ridge 134 cases, and Teterboro 6 cases. Hackensack continues to lead the county with 1,227 cases, according to Tedesco.

According to Murphy, Bergen County continues to lead the state in cases with 16,609, and followed by Hudson (16,354), Essex (15,095), Union (13,781), Passaic (14,133), and Middlesex (13,411), with 552 under investigation.  There are a total of 1,319 deaths in Bergen County, while Essex County continues to have the highest number of deaths in the state with 1,381.

As of 10 p.m. Wednesday, there were 4,996 people hospitalized with COVID-19 or under investigation, which is down from a peak of 8,270, a reduction of 40 percent, according to Murphy.  1,470 patients are in ICU or critical care, and 1,107 patients on ventilators. There were 460 patients were discharged from hospitals and 325 new admissions in the last 24 hours.

There are 32 patients in the three Field Medical Stations throughout the state.

According to Commissioner of Health Judith Persichilli, a total of 261,869 tests have been administered, with 102,846 testing positive, a 39.27% positive rate.
