HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- Four elected members of the Hasbrouck Heights Board of Education were sworn in and the new President and Vice President were elected late Thursday afternoon at Kiefer Auditorium.

Board Secretary Dina Messery administered the oath of office to four Board members who were elected in November. Patricia Caruso, Robert Faussette, and Joseph Rinke were re-elected. Lori Cintron was newly elected in November. Each took the oath.

After the swearing in, Messery, as temporary Chairperson, took nominations for President and Vice President of the Board. Alan Baker was nominated by Patricia Caruso for president. Nicole Russo was nominated by Robert Salerno for vice president. Each were seconded and unanimously voted in.

All Board members read the New Jersey School Board Members Code of Ethics. 

Before the swearing in, Dr. Matthew Helfant, Superintendent of Schools, announced the retirement of head football coach Nick Delcalzo. He said they would honor the coach at the regularly scheduled January 23 BOE meeting "to recognize his commitment to the district, his commitment to the community, and all that he's done."

The BOE also passed a Personnel Resolution to hire M. Balestra as high school Italian teacher scheduled to start March 2, 2020.
