HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ -- The Borough of Hasbrouck Heights hosted the annual Senior Citizens Picnic on Wednesday within the cool confines of the Senior Center.
Standard picnic fare was served including hamburgers, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, sausage/peppers/onions sandwiches, BBQ boneless chicken wings, corn, potato salad, pasta salad, and green garden salad. Drinks included soda, water, and coffee. And for dessert, cake and a choice of three flavors of gelato, cherry vanilla, chocolate hazelnut, and lemon sorbet. Gelato was provided by FM Cafe, a business co-owned by Hasbrouck Heights resident Adam Mucci, and his business partner Mike Flaherty. Counselors from the Hasbrouck Heights Rec Camp served the seniors throughout the festivities.
Rob Brady, Director of Recreation, welcomed the crowd of about 75+ in attendance. He recognized the the former Leisure Club presidents, Rose Mulle and Dot Fitzin, as well as current president June Raymond. Rosemarie Sees announced an upcoming trip for the group.
According to Sees, the senior picnic began in 2002, and was originally held in Woodland Park, until the borough's Borough Hall, Library, and Senior Center were built in 2004. Former Borough Clerk Sees along with Bob Zappetelli ran the event until her retirement in 2017. Since then, the annual event has been organized by Brady.
